In the Civic Museum of Palaeontology, located inside Palazzo Ghibellino, there are fossils and rocks that, as a whole, document last the two billions years of history on Earth. The most sizeable collection is, however, made up of fossils from Tuscan locations, where several typical Mesozoic and Cenozoic sedimentary successions emerge. The marvellous examples of malacofauna recovered from the Pliocene deposits that emerge in the Arno, Cecina and Ombrone river basin deserve particular attention.
